This was an incredible race!!  Quite possibly my favorite so far.  I kept a consistent 9:20 pace the entire time.  Weather was perfect, the course was flat, and there was spectator support along almost the entire race!  That was a new experience for me since St. George is mostly out in the open country and this race was all urban.  A huge motivator for me was coming around a corner at about mile 10 and seeing the top of my office building in the distance and knowing the finish line was just down the road from that.  I gave it 110% in the final stretch and it felt sooooo good.  Can't wait for the next race.  I would highly recommend this one if you haven't had the chance to do it. Searchable results....

Yeah Tyson! Great job! I was hoping you would post your results! That is a good time. Maybe I will have to try that half someday if it is nice and flat. I'm not a big fan of the hills! A couple other bloggers ran the marathon (jtshad and shauna) so you'll have to check out their report.

(Keep blogging!!!)

Great job on the HM, you did great. This is a nice race and a great place to be in January.

Keep up the strong running!

Hey I talked to your mom at Painters this weekend. She is speedy! I just did the 5k, but it was fun!

I went to Huntington Beach, California to race with my parents in this event.  They ran the full, I did the half.  What an adventure!!  This morning we woke up to POURING RAIN.  We all debated for awhile about whether we even wanted to go through with this race.  But they had flown clear down from Salt Lake, and I had driven out from PHX, so we weren't about to let a little moisture get in the way!  Luckily we found some people giving out garbage bags... I wrapped my iPod in a Ziploc bag and suited up.  The full marathon runners took off around 7 a.m., and then us half-marathoners started just before 8:00.  The rain was coming down the entire race!  I was wearing a baseball cap that luckily shielded it from my face, but I kept my plastic bag on until at least mile 4 or 5.  It was kind of cool, I actually saw my parents a couple of times during the race when the half and full courses crossed each others' paths.  I kept a very consistent 9:10 pace the entire time... Never stopped for water, just grabbed it on the run.  This course wasn't nearly as well marked as PF Changs.  I missed a couple mile markers, and none of the clocks were working (they were bagged up b/c of the rain).  I had no idea how I was doing on time.  I was more paranoid about keeping my iPod dry and forgetting the fact that everything I was wearing was soaked clear through.  We all survived though!!  It was an experience to remember.  I heard that there were going to be 15,000 half marathon runners today.  It says on the results that only 8402 finished.  So I guess the rain turned away quite a few.  Funniest thing about the trip is that I was pulling into my driveway in Tempe, AZ, tonight before my parents even got on the plane in LAX -- and we left Huntington Beach at the same time.  Evidently their flight to SLC was delayed twice.  I don't know if this link works, but here's my results thingie :).  http://runraceresults.com/event.asp?ID=RCHA2008

Nice job staying consistent! That is definitely hard for a lot of us. Also, congrats on beating what, at least 75% of the field! Rock on man.

Thanks Benn! I know, the coolest thing is that I finally got into sub-2-hour territory... By only ONE SECOND! Hahahaha... How lucky is that?

Woof. Racing a half in the rain sounds tough--hope your feet are okay! Wet shoes are notorious for making blisters. Sounds like it was quite an adventure. Congratulations on breaking 2:00!

Thanks Lybi. Amazingly, my feet are just fine. My mom and dad were blistery but besides being a little sore (which actually feels kinda good) I am not feeling too bad today. I noticed that we're neighbors, too... I'm in Tempe. Cool!

Another half already! You are doing awesome! That is a total PR for you to! Probably wasn't the funnest race, but it will be one you won't forget I'm sure. Good time (and in the rain) for sure!

Ah man! What a memorable race! I clicked on your report because the name of the race sounded so warm & dreamy. Sorry to hear that wasn't the case! You guys are awesome braving it in the rain! Way to go!!!
